Alles in ordnung?

Alles in Ordnung? is part of a greater work that celebrates the fluidity of identity. It provides a commentary on over-generalised, rigid taxonomies of identity in the form of a personality test. This test reduces such taxonomies into a binary decision: either you are an ordered person, or you are chaotic. Since such an assertion is clearly unacceptable, we have no choice but to consider instead the subtle, intangible flow of individual experience.

Alles in Ordnung? was written in C++ with openFrameworks. A custom foot pedal with two switches was used as input as each question in the test had only two possible answers. A live webcam feed of the user is displayed in the centre of the screen during the test. During the test the visitor's face becomes distorted to indicate either an ordered or chaotic personality. The distortions become more intense and more 3-dimensional with each question. The Kinect camera is used to isolate the user from the background.

Alles in Ordnung? was exhibited in The IT Show at Kunstquartier Bethanien, December 2014.
